The Twelve River Gardens
The idea and vision of River Gardens and all the components of this project that make it so special have been divinely inspired. The Stoehrs believe that this is a space that belongs to God, is to be used for His purposes and exists for people to experience His presence. Every facet and detail of its construction and use have been prayed over and carefully planned. It has also been a project completed with the help and expertise of many people who have partnered together and who have shared the same vision. From the beginning, the wall, the gates, the water features and greenery have carried a special meaning that add to the uniqueness of this gathering space. Here are a few.
Using the peaceful tranquility of water, the twelve water features inspire the discovery of Who Jesus Christ is.
1st Water Feature: Three in One—A representation of the Trinity, Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit. Jesus, God’s Son, is also represented as the Creator. 2 Corinthians 13:14
2nd Water Feature: The Incarnation—This simple yet profound water garden shows the miracle of the Incarnation, Immanuel God with us. 1 Timothy 3:16
3rd Water Feature: Redeemer—The seven copper pipes, the four wooden posts and the ten bandings of metal all teach us that Jesus Christ came to be the personal Redeemer of all humankind. Hebrews 9:12
4th Water Feature: Precious Blood—This single, unique turquoise boulder, with its fountain coming up from the center of the stone reveals the great price that was paid for the redemption of the world. 1 Peter 1:18,19
5th Water Feature: The Manifold Grace of God (still to be completed) - This water feature, with water flow-ing down flat stones, depicts the many sided grace of God. Romans 3:24
6th Water Feature: The Father’s Great Love—This giant waterfall that makes up the North wall of River Gar-den is a beautiful picture of the most famous scripture in the Bible John 3:16.
7th Water Feature: The Resurrection and Life—This water feature is a baptismal that proclaims Jesus’ victo-ry over death, and, because we too are in Christ, our victory over death also. John 11:24,25
8th Water Feature: The Head of the Church, our High Priest—Among the many attributes and relationships of Christ to His Church, are His offices “The Head of the Church” and “Our High Priest.” These two offices work to-gether to help bring His Bride to maturity. This growth in Christ is represented by three water urns, each repre-senting the three most important characteristics of a mature believer— righteousness, truth and holiness. Revelation 19:7
9th Water Garden: Covenant Love and Faithfulness—The three stacked boulders and cascading water of this fountain describes our Heavenly Father’s covenant commitment to always provide, always protect and always to work His eternal purpose in us. Secondly, this fountain speaks of Jesus’ wedding vows to His Bride, the Church: “I will never leave you or forsake you” and “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Ephesians 1:2
10th Water Feature: King of Kings and Lord of Lords—This two sided symmetrical water fountain reveals that Jesus Christ is King and Lord of all. 1 Tim 6:15.
11th Water Feature: The Living Word—The beautiful creek in the center of River Gardens is made up of two sides, with a bridge crossing in the center. The Living Word water garden is the part of the creek on the East side of the bridge and leads us to the understanding that Christ Himself is the Living Word and people should not live by bread alone, but by every Word that comes from God’s mouth. Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 4:12
12th Water Feature: The Holy Spirit—The twelfth and final water feature and revelation of Christ depicted at River Gardens is on the west side of the Creek. This Gift of the Father represents the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us to be a continual Helper and Companion for all believers.
